Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a surgical procedure that changes one’s appearance and ability to function. Plastic surgery is divided into two types; reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery.

Reconstructive surgery improves a body’s function, including microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, and skin burns. In comparison, Cosmetic surgery focuses on improving one’s aesthetic appearance in general.

Surgery is also done to remove ageing symptoms and relieve any form of discomforts like back or neck ache. In addition, cosmetic surgery improves the body condition after breast cancer and mastectomy.

Why do people do plastic surgeries?

Plastic surgery isn’t particular to gender but has recently been much more specific to the female gender. The influence of plastic surgeries is associated with four factors, and they include;

Media influence: People exposed to the daily activities of media may most likely be affected as the media enforces a stereotypic idea of what a body should look like.

Physical appearance: People who often want to look different or improve their looks tend to bend towards this path to feeling good about themselves.

Teasing: Teasing individuals with low self-esteem may trigger this decision to feel loved and satisfied with themselves.

Body dissatisfaction: Individuals whose bodies are physically deformed tend to seek cosmetic surgical procedures to correct such deformities—for instance, individuals with body dysmorphia.

Sub-disciplines of Plastic surgery

Furthermore, plastic surgery is a broad aspect, and it is of different types, and they include the following;

Aesthetic surgery

With body and facial aesthetics inclusive, aesthetic surgery is a branch of plastic surgery whereby principles of cosmetic surgery are applied to enhance an individual’s overall appearance.

Burn surgery

There are two phases in the surgical process of treating a burn, and that include;

Acute burn surgery: This procedure is carried out when a fresh burn occurs.Reconstructive burn surgery: This procedure occurs after which the wounds from the burns sustained must have healed.

Craniofacial surgery

This section is divided into craniofacial surgeries for adults and paediatric craniofacial surgery.

Paediatric craniofacial surgery involves abnormalities in the skeleton system and soft tissues, e.g. paediatric fractures, cleft lip and palate and so on.

Adult craniofacial surgeries involve reconstructive surgeries after trauma, cancer and so on.

Ethnic plastic surgery

Everyone’s face is unique, and skin types also vary ethnically. Therefore, this surgical procedure is performed to work on ethnic attributes to make some changes.

Hand surgery

This aspect of surgery concerns the hands and wrists and is a field of orthopaedic and general surgeons. They correct the flaws the hand or wrists may have via surgery.

Risks of plastic surgery

There is no surgical procedure that doesn’t have risks. Some of the risks involved include:

Abnormal scarring due to skin breakdown, damaged organs, mild bleeding, infection, damaged nerve, etc. Therefore, it’s essential that there is proper decision-making and also considering risks before opting for any surgical procedure just like you analyse risks before creating a 22Bet login account to gamble.
